Life Drawing Continuation & Digital Drawing

 Life Drawing

So other than the artefacts I showed at Crit week there are other things over the last few weeks I have been working on. Over the last few weeks iv been attending life drawing when I can, I moved away from trying to practice the hands and feet and decided to focus mostly toward the body. My supervisor pointed out  that around 5 minute poses are around my golden time for blocking out a pose while I have a good dependency toward drawing the legs. Ironically enough this was after I had taken out one of the Gnomon DVD on gesture drawing were it gave a fantastic example of the structure of a leg.

I believe there are 2 or 3 classes worth of drawing with a mix between male and female models, Though I was surprised when it came to drawing a male model. It had been around two year since I had drawing a male model and though I took out a DVD on gesture drawing I was only familiar with how to start and developed the female figure.

The final drawing of the male model above was an attempt with experimenting how i connected the different elements of the body. Though it is easier to apply to a female model the method did prove useful however it does add an over emphasis to the body. In some ways the drawing make him look fatter than he actually was.

Female  Figure Drawing & Fellow Students

At the Beginning of the Class we took time to draw volunteers from within the class, At this time we were mainly warming up.

After the first few times of attending life drawing i had spent most of the time in the same location for this class i decided to change to try to get a  profile view of the model. Frankly it as the best decision i had made and I'm especially grateful  to the model for the dynamic poses given during that session.

So why am I thankful ?  In this session the new seating location along with the poses given by the model emphasized the areas of anatomy and character drawing i have always struggled with. I was able to get a clear view of weight and how the model adjusted herself to compensate for this. There was also poses that show how the body squashed and stretched for certain poses. Drawing 1 and 5 in-particular show these areas which i now have visual reference for in future drawings.

Digital Drawing

I had spent a bit of time following my original post continuing my digital drawing however the act of drawing traditionally and digitally was actually weighing hard on the rest of my project. Below is how far I managed to bring my digital drawing before bring it  to a halt.

With these drawing it was mainly revelations that took part during their processes. This pages gradually made me accept the drawing style i prefer. When i think of Digital drawings I'm expecting these clean pieces of line art most likely a feat i will not a achieve. Why ? This is because I while drawing hate the look of those kind of lines they lack the emotion and feel that i love from sketching these drawing helped me discover and admit to that.  I also showed these to my supervisor and it was pointed out to me that I spend to much time trying to draw head and that may be why I'm struggling to get anywhere with my conceptual drawing. This is very true I have went through most the the year drawing head to the shoulders. However, Life drawing as brought my to draw more of the character but at the same time I am not putting as much detail into my drawings as before instead I'm aiming for gesture.

As this post is beginning to become very lengthy There will also be a follow up post which is based more toward how these are affecting my drawing and my conceptual ability.
