Supervisor Meeting, Lit Review, Methodology & Project Direction.

Meeting One with project supervisor - Lynn Parker.
I Had my first official meeting with my project supervisor Lynn Parker, The meeting agenda regarding:
1.      Literature Review Draft (Approached the correct way)
2.      Methodology  - Sketchbook,  Literature Theory's = Media tests  and Case study's ( Brave, Wall.E, Emperors New Grove.)
3.      Appropriate Approach for evaluation on the media tests ( External input over only Self-evaluation).
4.      Direction of the Project  ->  Lilly and Marys Story, Personality & History break down and converted into Media clips.

Literature Review
The main point that had been brought up in my Literature review feedback was to create links between the different topics addressed and how they relate to my aim. There was also a need of describing specialist terms as the proposal is aimed to be written so that someone that is not familiar with the topic can understand.

Methodology
We also discussed my methodology until recently I have struggled my establish a method of approaching this section. The combination of lecture sessions and group discussions had help to narrow down the approaches I was currently doing and the amount required from the project. I decided to discuss  the three methods I expected to be appropriate for my project, Along with how I should class the approach. Together we determined mixed methods as  I am concluding that my project fall onto Sketchbook work in order to explore visual representations. While deriving theory's and concepts from existing literature and then applying them both in my sketchbook as a planning tool while also applying them in practice in 3D.

Finally Case study's Examine existing films against my critical frame work which is backed by theory's from the existing literature. During the meeting I pointed toward Brave, Wall.e and the Emperors New Grove (Also Brother bear).  This was because each movie had contained either a Transformation of  how the character looks. However, the continued to act in the same manner as they did before. for example, Brother bear, Brave and Empeors new grove. Each movie has a character that is transformed into an animal however their thought process and acting continues to remain the same.

Taking Wall.e as the other approach it focused on  limited dialogue so the majority of the commutation was taken by the body language, actions and reaction of the character. There was at least 3 characters that had aspects of the theory's I have currently read about. This brought in some advice from Lynn about focusing on only one of the characters. Currently at this time I am leaning towards Eve.
There was also an Issue that all the films I had suggested being from Disney or Pixar. This results in the study only focusing on a particularly approach by  a single studio. So I have been directed toward Dreamworks and Studio Ghibli's films. Something I practically liked about this is that it will factor in cross culture animation along with a difference in animation style However, I now have to identify movies that would be appropriate case studies from these studios.

Evaluation on the media tests
This point was not discussed in an in-depth as we began running short on time Lynn commented on evaluating it against my critical framework, However it was not appropriate to the meaning I had in mind.

Direction of the Project
The direction of my project was the final thing we discussed, For this I pitched a summary of the story I wish to tell involving Lilly and Mary. Along with the visual approach they will be displayed. Lynn  was able to identify it as a collage approach and suggested I study and take pointers from the beginning of Up. She initially liked the idea of the story but also pointed out two issue currently present which was to do with the scope of the project. Along with a gap in development of the character.  I could very much agree to this as I have been having issue with this very problem. At the early stages of this project I was able to conceptualize how Mary would move, act, react and her interests. While I struggled with the same area involving Lilly. On the other hand when it came to putting the story together I was able to create a purpose of Lilly needing Mary and how Lilly would progress throughout the story while struggling to decide how Mary would develop.
Lynn pointed out that I have Established why Lilly needs Mary but why does Mary need Lilly and what does Mary aim to achieve in her own future along with If Mary has a competitive nature wouldn't it be contradictory if she hated tests or studying.
I have yet to focus on this subject and rework it but my first thoughts to toward her comments would agree along with establishing Marys need for Lilly by having Marys competitive nature move from studying and school into video games.

The action point we decided upon:
1. The Construction of Wall.E  caste study.
2. Identifying movie from different backgrounds.
3. Review feedback on my Literature review.
4. View "The Triplets of Belleville" against my critical framework.
5. Develop story beats for the current ideas regarding around Lilly and Marys story's
6. Apply Michael Chekhov's formula ( Quality + Action = Emotion) to  Lilly or Marry as a media test.
