I have just finished reading my points of interest in Think
Animation Bridging the gap between 2D and CG. The first time I picked up the
book it was investigating Animation & Storyboarding History which it did
not fail to inform. However, This time around I was drawn to this book for its
topic on power centres in animation which soon broadened to other topics
within the book.
The book itself has a lot of the theories mentioned by Ed
Hooks In Acting for animators but a lot expands them giving more examples along
with creating links for example power centers (Leads) and Status
(Status transactions) which involves how the character moves around based
on emotion and how they feel in the environment around them along with being in
the presence of others. While reading it
also has much like acting for animators brought to my attention principles I
have over looked while animating. Think Animation has also helped broaden the
types of movement and placement that can act as psychological gestures.
As i continue to conduct test animations i will aim to apply techniques with these theory's in mind, Which in turn will allow me an opportunity to improve my animation practice.
