Week2- Research & Dissertation1 Acting For Animators

Midnight Reading

So Finished reading "Acting for Animators"by Ed Hooks and just finished writing down some of the areas I'd like to look into. Using these point I hope to study some more characters from films and picking apart their performances to find out how certain poses work or have certain effect

Acting for Animators has very good view toward its concepts and it is very easy to relate to the examples given. Though the book does not work like a How to do book, instead  it makes you aware of these topic which from my own opinion are overlooked.

I will soon look into the following topics and try animate some sequences with them in mind.

  1. Thinking tend to lead to conclusions, and emotion tends to lead to action
  2. The psychological gesture and atmosphere
  3. Acting is a process of exposing not hiding
  4. Acting is doing acting is also reacting
  5. Movement and body language
  6. Character temp/ rhythm
  7. Status transactions
  8. Power centers
Here is a fun video from Monsters Inc by Pixar & Disney with lots of Thinking > Conclusion > Emotion > Action.
