I had a meeting with Lynn today in which we discussed the
newest idea toward what I wish to do for my project. The proposed research
question was The interpretation of a
characters personality through the actions and reactions during their
performance. However Lynn advised toward changing interpretation to creation
as by using interpretation I am stating that the project will defiantly be
based toward testing on people. When with creating it will allow the original
idea to be present but also be open toward testing later.
With this established we began talking about what activities
I believe I would be conducting toward this proposal. The creative side toward
the research will be based toward taking character personality descriptions,
Sections of stories along with the creation of my own character personalities
and then creating character performance animations based on that information.
This can be used with both singled characters to establish a personality and
then toward multiple characters that will help to enhance the individual personalities.
We also used this opportunity to discuss my current ideas and animation projects. The first Idea featured two characters interacting with each other though I could not find the best words to explain one of them when Lynn pointed out Extrovert and Introvert, Unaware of their meanings I have begun looking up their definition however the exact spelling seemed to be varied on both wiki and online dictionary. A point of reference she also pointed out was The beginning of Pixar's "Up" when Carl and Ellie First meet.
Another
area of this idea we discussed was the context of the two characters
relationship and how they would act toward each other under those circumstances
along with how exaggerated their reactions to one another would be. As I continue
to watch Japanese animation and scare my dad regularly the expression of surprise
I imagine is around the lines of this.
"Negima!" |
though
we discussed more toward how the extrovert character would react toward
realizing the just scared someone. Establishing a context for the characters
will also begin the process of giving my characters name during these tests
making it easier to talk about individual characters.
The
second idea leaned more toward a humorous side which involved a lazy boy at his
computer who hates policemen and repeatedly abusing them by pushing a big
button that slams them between the door and the wall. Which may I add he repeatedly
pushes to get his point across. This lead to Lynn suggesting taking a look at
the work of Tex Avery who was a master of making a joke/gag and then continuing
to take it even further. After looking at some video I wouldn't be surprised if
Tex Avery is the person who influence my humor toward multiple takes over a
singular gag.
"Jerky Turkey"
This test would be somewhat longer than my previous as it
would make use of props and environment interacting. Though the base of it will
allow me to work on my personal development in animation techniques and
allowing characters in interact with props effectively which is an area I have struggled
with in the past. My next course of action will be toward
researching toward the personality driven areas of literature along with a
stronger focus on the development of these tests, As I prefer to draw
thumbnails for planning these tests. I will begin animating them once iv
refined the actions and reactions more in my sketchbook.
