Commedia dell'Arte & Project Direction

Commedia dell'Arte
I have Been continuing to read Action: Acting lessons for animators and came across a chapter toward Commedia Dell Arte, The Chapter leaves an impression of characteristics from stock characters that are present in more recent films. The stock characters in Commedia are considered quite memorable. The traits of the characters are recognizable from their personality and how their performance with the body allows the character to be identified. Though reading through the book I could picture these characters from my own view and examples given within the book. I was rather surprised by the performance of this area because it was not what I expected. While watching an a video on this topic I would say the theatrical performance Is not something a particularly like However in terms of the concepts of these characters being implemented into current and future character bases I find it quite interesting.

Clayton Meets Buck
I Also conducted my second animation test which was aimed toward fusing Clayton from "Tarzan" and Buck from "Ice Age 3" taking Clayton's stature, power centre and movements with Bucks Erratic chain of thought. However after animate the first half of the walk cycle I had managed to break part of the rig which I wanted for this test cutting it short. Though this did give me practice in animating a walk cycle with more drive.

Project Direction - Character Performance and Possibly Theoretical Character Design
On another note after pitch week and a meeting with one of our group mentors. My project in some way is changing where it was going. The main bases of the project was in Character performance which lead toward focusing on acting. However the only second part to this project was story and because I enjoy watching or seeing comedy that automatically got applied. The idea of pursuing Comedy has been tossed out because I know that it is not my style of thought and my ability to achieve this is not possible. I am an in the moment Jokester or just plain sarcastic..... So during the meeting what I like about character animation/performance and movies is seeing the reactions of characters depending on the context in which the situation arises. This Idea will be my next Test animation along with more character interactions and possibly some character rhythm tests.

Earlier today while reflecting on the meeting I thought more toward what I like in Character animation/performance. Which allowed me to conclude on personality, putting this on a better context... Imagine this situation that you are about to watch a movie which you just happen to switch on at that time. You have no idea who the characters are or what the story is about. However, The character is introduce you are then engaged with who that character is and what they are doing allowing you to continue with the movie or perhaps you don't like this character and what they are doing so you change channel.

What I enjoy is the a characters personality the actions they take which is driven by their own values/chain of thought which have been created by their past and how the character communicates this message to the audience allowing them to become engaged in a character.

The closest I can get to a research question with this concept in mind is:
How a characters personality is defined b their internal values and motivation and how they communicate this to the audiance through their character performance ?

The aim of the project can be:
The development of a theoretical character stories and chain of thoughts which is interrupted by animation through character performance.
This means the project will lean toward character design or characterization as its second half. While character performance remains the dominant component. It will involve creating concepts for characters back-story, who they are, how they act and how they think. With this information the character as the medium must clearly convey this message to the audience of who they are through an animated performance.
